Accidental 90s time travel at my desk← Terug naar verhalen

My flatmate has been properly obsessed with this European station—Radio 10, I think—because they’ve been running an entire week dedicated to the 90s. Naturally, because our kitchen is about three square metres, his morning radio habits become my morning radio habits by default.

Now, being born in ’96, my actual lived memory of that decade mostly consists of smashed bananas, chunky primary-coloured plastic toys, and whatever battered cassette was permanently stuck in the stereo of my mum’s old car. But having it blaring in the background while I’m nursing a flat white and staring blankly at broken code? Honestly, not bad at all.

It makes total sense why half the people on here have been reminiscing about it all week. You get this wild mix of cheesy Eurodance, baggy drum loops, and then suddenly a bit of pristine 90s indie that I’d usually spend half a Saturday hunting down on vinyl in the North Laine. There’s something bizarrely comforting about listening to music made before the modern internet existed while I sit here getting paid to build things for it.

A bit of nostalgia never hurt anyone, even if I was in nappies for half of it.

Did any of you tune into the 90s week, or are you just digging out your own dusty playlists? What’s the one track from back then that you'll defend to the death?
